Early voting for primary runoff continues

Friday last day to cast ballots before runoff

MILLEDGEVILLE — Early voting for Georgia's primary runoff election began June 30 and runs through Friday.

Runoff races include seats for United State Senate, state school superintendent and the 10th U.S. Congressional district.

The runoff election candidates include Republican U.S. Senate candidates Jack Kingston and David Perdue and Republican 10th Congressional candidates Mike Collins and Jody B. Hice. The state school superintendent race has both Republican and Democratic candidates — Michael L. Buck and Richard Woods (Republican) and Alisha Thomas Morgan and Valarie D. Wilson (Democrat).

Winners of the runoff election will move on to the Nov. 4 General Election.

Just 22 percent of Baldwin County's 20,341 registered voters turned out to cast ballots for the primary and nonpartisan races held in May.

Thus far, the number of local registered voters that have already taken part in the early voting process is around 300 to 400.

"We have voted well over 300 voters in person to date and about 70 by mail," said  Elizabeth Rodgers, chief deputy registrar of Baldwin County Board of Registrars.

Early voting for the runoff takes place weekdays at the Baldwin County Courthouse in Hearing Room 104 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

"If you'd prefer to vote absentee, the last day our office is allowed by law to mail a ballot is Friday, July 18," Rodgers said.

She also reminds voters that there will be no voting the day prior to Election Day, Tuesday, July 22.

"This day is reserved for elections staff to deploy machines to the precincts," she said.

On Election Day, voting at the polls will run from 7 a.m. till 7 p.m.

All polling locations in Baldwin County will be open.

Voters are required to provide approved photo identification and complete an application to vote.

Voters wishing to verify status or polling location my do so by visiting the Georgia Secretary of State web sit and go to the My Voter Page (MVP).

The MVP can also be accessed on mobile devices. The app is available through iPhone and Android platforms. To download the app search for "GA Votes" in the app store.
