MILLEDGEVILLE — Good morning. Here’s a look at what’s happening today.





Weather: 





Patchy fog early then mostly sunny. A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs in the lower 90s. Southwest winds 5 to 15 mph. Tonight partly cloudy. Lows around 70. Light and variable winds.

Best bet for today:

Bingo is held at the American Legion post on Log Cabin Road at 7 p.m. on Log Cabin Road. No one under the age of 18 is permitted. Refreshments are sold by the Ladies Auxiliary. 478-452-8538

On this day:           

Today marks the beginning of Spain’s Running of the Bulls. The Running of the Bulls is a practice that involves running in front of a small group (typically a dozen) of bulls that have been let loose, on a course of a sectioned-off subset of a town's streets. The most famous running of the bulls is that of the seven-day festival of Sanfermines in honour of San Fermín in Pamplona although they are held in towns and villages across Spain, Portugal, and in some cities in Mexico Mesquite, Nevada, and southern France , during the summer. Unlike bullfights, which are performed by professionals, anyone older than 18 may participate in an encierro.

Georgia’s Old Capital Museum Society will host the eighth annual Artifact Identification Day in the museum’s

Native American Gallery July 12 from noon to 4 p.m. The event is free and open to the public and everyone who attends is invited to bring found objects or family heirlooms. Items can include, but are not limited to: rocks, Indian artifacts, pottery, farm implements and Civil War items.

School staff were evacuated from Midway Elementary School around 1:30 p.m. due to a gas leak from a nearby tap station. Highway 441 South was closed for approximately an hour as Baldwin County Fire Rescue personnel and Southern Natural Gas employees worked to determine the cause of the leak.
