Southern Curves brand enters Milledgeville

MILLEDGEVILLE —

An enterprising Savannah resident took a chance launching a vodka brand last summer.

Owner and creator of Southern Curves Spirits, Michelle Weber, targets women with the ‘Southern Praline’ and ‘Sweet Georgia Nectar’ brands that can be tasted locally.

Aubri Lane’s features signature Weber cocktails using Southern Curves, and Gringos will soon follow.

Owner of both eateries Jason Medders said a mutual friend made the acquaintance. Medders attended the Southern Curves’ launch party.

“It was just a cool flavor combination,” he said. “I thought it fit well with Aubri Lane’s definitely and something fun and different to have at Gringos as well.”

Since the vodka brand hit the shelves in October 2013, Weber has utilized a hands on approach for marketing and promotions.

Just last week she visited Valdosta, Albany and Columbus before arriving in Milledgeville.

So far, everybody seems to love the corn and wheat grain based spirit distilled six times.

“It’s smooth, and they like what it represents,” Weber said. “It’s just getting it out there that’s hard.”

The Southern Curves story started in 2010 when Weber ran Cocoa’s Dessert Bar on Wilmington Island near Savannah.

Weber always mixed creative martinis until she found her “calling” when infusing flavors into vodka.

“I won a couple of martini contests around Savannah with a well known vodka company, and one of the head sales reps at a distributing company tasted them and said you need to do something with this,” Weber said. “I took it from there.”

Southern Curves hooked up with national distributors for statewide product placement.

‘Southern Praline,’ a mixture of toasted pecans and crunchy brown sugar candies, and ‘Sweet Georgia Nectar,’ a blend of honeysuckle, peach and jasmine, were the roll out flavors.

All the flavors are well known to Southerners and Georgians alike.
