MILLEDGEVILLE — Good morning. Here’s a look at what’s happening today.





Weather: 





Mostly sunny with a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Highs in the upper 80s. Northwest winds 10 to15 mph. Wednesday night mostly clear. Lows in the lower 60s. Light and variable winds.

Best bet for today:

The 10th GOP Congressional District and the Baldwin County GOP will co-host a run-off debate between Mike Collins and Jody Hice at 7 p.m.

Georgia Military College's Goldstein Center for the Performing Arts at 201 E. Greene St. will host the event.

On this day:           

African-American journalist and antilynching crusader Ida B. Wells was born on this day the daughter of slaves at Holly Springs, Miss., and grew up as Jim Crow and lynching were becoming prevalent. Wells traveled extensively, founding anti-lynching societies and black women’s clubs. Wells’s Red Record (1895) was one of the first accounts of lynchings in the South.

Upcoming events:

The Milledgeville Chapter of the UGA Alumni Association invites all UGA alumni and fans to a Freshman Send-Off on Sunday, July 27, from 5-7:30 p.m. at the home of Jimmy (BBA ’64) and Elizabeth (EDS ’76, EDD ’86) Youngblood, 255 Corral Road in Milledgeville. Visit alumni.uga.edu/FSO to RSVP. Students will have the chance to meet fellow UGA classmates from the Milledgeville area and get to know local alumni and fans. Parents will learn how to stay connected to the Bulldog Nation while their child is at UGA.
