Early traffic, weather and community news for your day

MILLEDGEVILLE — Weather:

Friday: Mostly sunny with a chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs in the lower 90s. Northwest winds 5 to15 mph. Chance of rain 30 percent.

Friday night: Partly cloudy. A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms in the evening. Lows around 70. Northwest winds up to 10 mph.

 

Best bet for today:

10 and 11:15 a.m.: The LIR Board will meet at the Milledgeville Country Club with Lunch and Learn to follow. The officers for the 2014-2015 year will be installed and the guest speaker will be Shannon T. Harvey, LCSW, chief executive officer of River Edge. Lunch will be buffet style and cost $13.

 

Upcoming events:

9 a.m. to noon: The Green Farmer's Market (formerly known as the Greenway Farmer's Market) is open at the new Market Park Pavilion downtown. There will be live music, fresh produce and other vendors. The finest summer vegetables are now ready at market – squash, cucumbers, grass fed beef, peaches, blueberries, artisan baked bread, fresh Miami; plus flowers, milk, jams and jellies and fresh scones. At 10 the Milledgeville-Baldwin County Chamber of Commerce will hold a ribbon cutting to celebrate the market’s move to its new community location.
