Woman pleads guilty to assault charges

Kristi McGhee, 30, pleaded guilty Friday to aggravated assault and interference with a 911 call charges stemming from an arrest by the Milledgeville Police Department in March of 2013.

She received a 20-year sentence with the first six years to be served in prison.

“Because of the severity of the crime, this was one case you won’t forget,” said Stephen Bradley, Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit Chief Assistant District Attorney.

The victim in the incident was McGhee’s grandmother.

On the morning of March 20, police received a 911 call from Video Bazaar located on South Elbert Street.

According to Maj. Reginald Hill, MPD criminal investigations commander, an officer found the victim behind the counter, unresponsive and severely injured. EMS were notified and arrived on scene shortly thereafter.

According to an incident report, it appeared that the victim had been beaten about the face, head, arms and midsection area with a baseball bat. The alleged weapon was found near the area in which the assault had taken place.

She was taken to the Medical Center of Central Georgia for her injuries.

Due to a previous call from 911 involving an argument between McGhee and the family over the legal ownership of property, police immediately began a search for her.

At the time, McGhee’s whereabouts were unknown and state warrants had been issued for her arrest.

Police along with Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office deputies checked several known addresses in order to find McGhee and speak with her about her involvement in the assault.

The search for McGhee ended the same night just after midnight when she was arrested during a traffic stop conducted by a patrol unit.

According to Police Chief, Dray Swicord, McGhee was pulled over between 12:20 and 12:25 a.m. and arrested without incident.

“A 911 call came in earlier before the arrest by her neighbor notifying us that McGhee’s car was spotted leaving her home.” Swicord said in a previous statement.
