Police investigate child molestation allegations

MILLEDGEVILLE — An investigation of possible child molestation allegations culminated in the arrest of a man by the Milledgeville Police Department.

Officers were notified of a possible child molestation case occurring within the city limits of Milledgeville May 21.

Michael Barnard Kelley, 49, was accused of engaging in improper activity with a child of a woman he knew.

“This has turned out to be a very intense investigation, due to the age of the child involved,” said Maj. Reginald Hill of the MPD.

Family members of the victim brought the allegation to the attention of police.

According to Hill, in response to the allegations, Investigator Kim Khan immediately teamed up with patrol units and reported to the residence of the allegation.

“After multiple interviews and an interview completed on the victim by a clinical child psychologist, charges were filed against Kelley,” Hill said.

Kelley has been formally charged with one count of Aggravated Child Molestation and one count of Enticing a Child for Indecent Purposes.

He was initially arrested for a Bench Warrant through Milledgeville police and transferred to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s for a misdemeanor probation violation warrant.
