MILLEDGEVILLE — Good morning. Here’s a look at what’s happening today.





Weather: 





Sunny. Highs in the upper 80s. West winds 10 to15 mph. Wednesday night. Clear. Lows in the mid 60s. West winds 5 to 10 mph.

On this day:

On this day, the American Red Cross was founded in 1881. Clara Barton and a circle of acquaintances founded the American Red Cross in Washington, D.C. on May 21, 1881. Barton first heard of the Swiss-inspired international Red Cross network while visiting Europe following the Civil War. Returning home, she campaigned for an American Red Cross society and for ratification of the Geneva Convention protecting the war-injured, which the United States ratified in 1882.

Best bet for today:

GMC will host the JC Spring Chorus Concert in the Goldstein Center for the Performing Arts at 7 p.m. The concert will feature the junior college chorus and GMC chamber singers. The event is free and the community is invited.

Upcoming events:

The third annual Ingram Memorial 5k Run/Walk will be held at the CSH campus in the pecan orchard Saturday, May 31. The event will begin at 8 a.m. For information contact Barbara Ingram Stone, bingram1st@yahoo.com or 360-909-1739. The website for the event is www.meltingram.com. Registration begins at 6:30. The registration fee is now $25. The event is a fundraiser to raise awareness of cardiovascular disease and to support the Bill Ingram Jr. and Lt. Col. (Ret.) Ingram USMC Scholarship Fund.
