MILLEDGEVILLE — Good morning. Here’s a look at what’s happening today.





Weather: 





Areas of fog early then mostly sunny. Slight chance of showers and thunderstorms early in the afternoon. Chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs around 90. Southeast winds 5 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 30 percent..Tonight partly cloudy. Areas of fog after midnight. Lows in the mid 60s. Light and variable winds.

Today is National Children’s Book week, an annual event, sponsored by The Children's Book Council, to encourage the enjoyment of reading for young people. 

Best bet for today:

It’s National Bike Month and the Milledgeville Bicycling Club is celebrating. Bike to Work Week (May 12-16).

During National Bike to Work week (May 12-16), the Bicycling Club of Milledgeville will host a local competition to encourage more riders to use their bicycles for transportation by commuting to work.  BCM will award the top five commuters for the week with a $15 gift certificate for RoadID. The top commuter for the week will also receive a $25 gift certificate to Dough Boys Pizza in downtown Milledgeville.

Upcoming events:

The Milledgeville Lions Club, assisted by Milledgeville fire fighters, will conduct its 29th Fishing for Sight fish-a-thon May 17 from 10 a.m. to noon (with a rain date of May 24). Kids five through 13 will compete for trophies at the Baldwin County Recreation Center’s big pond. Live bait, cane poles and a limited number of buckets will be provided.
