JMA baseball team solid over Trinity Christian

MILLEDGEVILLE — The John Milledge Academy baseball team returned from its school spring break looking impressive in a 7-1 win over visiting Trinity Christian School Monday afternoon in a non-region contest at Trojan Field.

The Trojans got five early runs and then coasted to victory, earning their third win of the season. JMA totaled 10 hits while giving up no errors in the win.

“We played well,” said third-year head coach Justin Mills. “Especially coming off spring break, we came to play and it was good to see the bats were still alive.”

The bats started strong with a big three-hit, four-run first inning. After Chad Charping reached first base on a fielding error, he stole second. Then, Tommy Pittman singled to centerfield for the first hit of the game. Cody Miller reached on a fielder’s choice and he and Charping scored when Ben Bracewell hit a two-run double down the left line to put the Trojans up 2-0.

Still in the first inning, Chandler Bryant’s single up the middle scored Bracewell and Hunter Harding to increase the JMA lead to 4-0.

In the second inning, Harding scored Zach Meeks giving the Trojans five runs before the Lions knew what hit them. It took Trinity Christian four innings to figure out starting pitcher Trevor Evans. The sophomore struck out five of the first six Lion batters before finally giving up a hit in the fourth.

Later in the same inning, Evans walked in a run to give Trinity Christian some hope at 5-1. For the day, Evans allowed just one hit with eight strikeouts in four innings. Coach Mills praised the young hurler, ”Trevor Evans pitched a good game.”

The Trojans added two more runs in their last two times at bat. In the fifth inning, Harding singled to centerfield and was able to reach third base on a subsequent passed ball and fielder’s choice. Bryant scored Harding on a sacrifice fly for a 6-1 lead, and then Harding would score Pittman in the sixth for game’s final run.
