MILLEDGEVILLE —

The luminaries are coming this Christmas.

Milledgeville can view the shining candles resting in bags of sand on Sunday night.

Thousands of luminaries placed 10-feet apart will line the two-mile circle on Sussex Drive beginning at 6 p.m. with the ceremonial lighting.

In case of rain, the lighting will move to Christmas Eve Tuesday, Dec. 24.

Since 1989, neighborhood residents have lined the two miles of road with luminaries to celebrate the season.

The luminaries, which usually burn all night before going out, not only add a glimmering touch to the area but bring people close during the holidays.

Wes and Laura Cummings of Captain D's donate all the bags. Gus and Helen Pursley with Fowler-Flemister Concrete donate the sand.

All other neighborhood residents pitch in for the purchase of the candles.
