County, schools impacted by low water pressure

Baldwin County under boil water notice

MILLEDGEVILLE — Baldwin County residents, excluding the City of Milledgeville, are under a boil water notice. At least one area school is also impacted by the low water pressure and boil water notice.

According to county officials, “due to the extreme weather conditions, excessive usage and water pipe breaks have caused service interruption within several areas of Baldwin County. This is causing water pressure in parts of the water system to drop to dangerously low levels.”

Students, teachers and staff at Midway Elementary were relocated this morning to other school buildings resulting from no water at the school.  Students were transported upon arrival this morning to Early Learning Center and Eagle Ridge Elementary.

Kindergarten and first grade students will be at ELC, while second through fifth-grade and self-contained special education students will be at Eagle Ridge today.

Students will be transported back to Midway by 2:15 p.m. for normal dismissal, according to the Baldwin County Schools website.

Midway students who are in the YES program will remain at Eagle Ridge in the afternoon.

When this occurs a potential health hazard may exist in these areas of zero pressure from backflow and/or back-siphonage of water of unknown quality into the water distribution system. In order to protect the public from a potential health hazard, all citizens that have experienced water outages and/or low water pressures are advised to “boil” all water prior to use of drinking, cooking, or preparing baby food.

The water should be boiled for at least one minute after reaching a rolling boil. Citizens should continue to boil their water until they are notified by their drinking water utility that the water system has been restored to full operation, and that the microbiological quality of the water in the distribution system is safe for human consumption.

Anyone with any questions is asked to call the Baldwin County Water & Sewer at 478-445-4237. Anyone with questions on the school-related issues is asked to call Eagle Ridge at 478-457-2967 or ELC at 478-457-2469.
