Area schools to resume Tuesday as officials watch and wait

MILLEDGEVILLE — Baldwin County area school officials are monitoring the weather today as classes are slated to resume as scheduled Tuesday in most locations.

Sinclair Christian Academy was slated to begin the spring semester Monday, but school officials decided to cancel all classes due to inclement weather. Classes are expected to start Tuesday. SCA parents and students will receive an email if there are changes to the school schedule and the school Facebook page will be updated with information.

Georgia Military College officials are monitoring the weather throughout today and will notify parents and students of any school schedule changes via its notification system and Twitter page. Classes resumed as normal today at GMC.

Baldwin County public school system is expected to resume class as scheduled Tuesday. The school system will notify students and parents through its emergency alert system, Z97 FM and area television stations if there are changes. Information will also be posted to the school system’s website.

John Milledge Academy is also planning to resume classes Tuesday. Students and families will be notified through the school’s emergency text messaging system, the local radio station, JMA website and the school’s Facebook page.

Central Georgia Technical College officials are also not planning to cancel classes Tuesday. Students can keep up-to-date with any rescheduling information by checking their email. CGTC’s text alert system will also notify students. Area media stations and the school’s Facebook page will post the latest.

As of Monday morning, the National Weather Service issued a wind and wind chill advisory for north and central Georgia counties including Baldwin.

Temperatures are expected to fall to around freezing and the roadways to remain wet as the day persists.

Gusty winds and bitterly cold temps will combine to produce dangerously cold wind chills Monday night.

Monday night will be mostly clear with lows around 14 degrees.

Sunny and cold Tuesday with highs in the upper 20s. Northwest winds 5 to 15 mph. Wind chill readings around zero.
