K’s Electric Vapor helps smokers accomplish their New Year’s resolution

MILLEDGEVILLE — Traditional cigarette smokers wanting to kick the habit in the New Year can try a safer alternative at K’s Electric Vapor.

The business is family-owned and operated and first set up shop in downtown Dublin in August 2012. After having much success, a second store opened in Dublin in October 2012. K’s Electric Vapor expanded to Warner Robins in March 2013 before the grand opening of the Milledgeville location last month.

“We decided this was a good business opportunity to start since you only see it online, but you don’t see an actual storefront like this,” said Brian Kimsey, district and marketing manager of the company. “It’s become a trend to see people walking around with e-cigarettes. Since we opened [in Milledgeville], we sell about 40 to 50 full kits each month and starter kits triple that. We have sold a couple thousand e-liquids.”

According to Discovery Fit & Health, the electronic cigarette, also popularly known as “e-cig,” was first introduced to the U.S. market in 2007. It reportedly offers the nicotine-addicted an alternative to smoking tobacco. E-cigarettes do not contain tobacco, and are designed to look just like regular cigarettes. Instead, it holds a battery, a vaporization chamber and a cartridge filled with liquid nicotine. The device heats the liquid and changes it to a nicotine-filled vapor when puffed. The nicotine is delivered to the lungs when inhaled and the vapor is exhaled.

“The system is built for you to stop smoking, and vaping is an alternative to smoking indoors. You start with the level of nicotine you’re used to and you gradually decrease the level. It’s much more cost effective than smoking regular cigarettes. You don’t give off an offensive odor and it’s better for your health because you don’t take in the harsh chemicals,” Kimsey said. “I’ve been smoking since I was 15 years old. I started with the Revolution Kit in February 2012. I went from smoking two packs a day to smoking none in a month and a half. This isn’t a sales pitch; it actually works.”
