UPDATE: SCA, JMA, Baldwin Co. classes canceled

GMC, CGTC to remain open

MILLEDGEVILLE — Baldwin County public schools, Sinclair Christian Academy and John Milledge Academy will be closed Tuesday for students, teachers and staff due to projected weather conditions impacting the school day.

Putnam County Schools, Gatewood Schools and Wilkinson County Schools are also closed Tuesday.

Sinclair Christian Academy was slated to begin the spring semester Monday, but school officials decided to cancel all classes due to inclement weather. Classes will remain canceled Tuesday as well.

Classes were scheduled to resume Tuesday for many students after Christmas break, but not all local schools are closed.

Classes resumed at Georgia Military College on Monday and will continue Tuesday on the regular schedule.

Central Georgia Technical College officials are also not planning to cancel classes Tuesday. Registration for the spring semester was held Monday on the Milledgeville CGTC campus. Students can keep up-to-date with any rescheduling information by checking their email. CGTC’s text alert system will also notify students. Area media stations and the school’s Facebook page will post the latest.

Little Caterpillars, Learning Safari and St. Stephen’s Day School are also slated to remain open Tuesday.

The Twin Lakes Library System is closed Tuesday. The closing affects all of its branch facilities. Further updates will be available on its website.

A wind chill advisory and a wind advisory remain in effect for Baldwin and surrounding counties with wind chill readings in the low single digits to below zero expected through the afternoon.

A wind chill advisory means that very cold air and strong winds will combine to generate low wind chills, which could result in frost bite or hypothermia if precautions are not taken.

Gusty winds and bitterly cold temps combined to produce dangerously cold wind chills Monday night.

Monday night is expected to be mostly clear with lows around 14 degrees.

Sunny and cold Tuesday with highs in the upper 20s. Northwest winds 5 to 15 mph. Wind chill readings around zero.
