The Baldwin County Board of Education signed a contract with the Georgia School Boards Association (GSBA) during Tuesday’s regular meeting to allow GSBA to conduct the initial search and evaluation for a new school superintendent.
“The Baldwin County school system has a great working relationship with GSBA and has received numerous hours of training through GSBA,” school board Chair John Jackson, District 4, said. “We feel very comfortable with their process in the superintendent search. It’s been tried and true throughout school systems in the state of Georgia.”
At last month’s meeting, the school board accepted School Superintendent Geneva Braziel’s resignation, effective June 30, 2014. Braziel served two terms as superintendent for the school district. Her current three-year contract ends Nov. 1, 2014.
As stated in the contract, GSBA will promptly and professionally conduct a search for a new superintendent for the district, involving the advertising and solicitation of applications, processing applications, screening candidates, receiving recommendations and evaluations of candidates, performing evaluations of candidates, and submitting a report to the school district with candidates determined to be appropriate for consideration.
“GSBA will create the application and the application will be posted on www.teachgeorgia.org and the school system website. GSBA will also train us on how to interview,” Jackson said. “We will go through the entire process so we can have a superintendent by the start of the school year.”
GSBA will also draft, manage and formulate the results of a community survey to be posted on the school district’s website.
GSBA will conduct a community forum to receive input from the community on the characteristics it would like to see in a new superintendent.
Once candidates go through the interview process, GSBA recommends for the school board to select three finalists to be publicly announced.
The initial cost to have GSBA perform duties outlined in the agreement costs the school system $6,800.
