Americus native appears on ‘Family Feud’ From Staff Reports AMERICUS TIMES-RECORDER (AMERICUS, Ga.) LOS ANGELES — Americus native Derrick King recently appeared on the T.V. game show “Family Feud,” which is taped in Hollywood.
King, who moved to Los Angeles in 2001, is a graduate of both Americus High School and Georgia Southwestern State University, and is also a former teacher and coach of the Sumter County School System. King is the son of Josie Simpson, who still lives in Americus. He is currently the general manager of Simpson Mortuary, which also is located in Los Angeles. King and some of his Los Angeles relatives auditioned for “Family Feud” in November. The King family was in a large casting auditorium with about 50 other families in the initial casting call, explained King. He said the producers of the show were looking for families with charisma and enthusiasm. King said he unknowingly caught the attention of one of the producers during the audition process, when King kept making a buzz sound when one of the other families would reply with a crazy answer. King said his different antics during the audition process had the other families and producers laughing, and that is one of the reasons his family was able to make it through two other auditions and eventually on the show. Unfortunately, the King family went up against and lost to a two-time champion.
