100 Black Men of Milledgeville is sponsoring a basketball tournament that organizers hope will raise money for the group’s ongoing efforts to provide support and test preparation for college-bound students who wish to take the SAT or ACT.

“The proceeds from the tournament will be used to help with test preparation,” organizer James Lunsford of 100 Black Men of Milledgeville said. “The preparation is open to every child. We take applications and offer pre-test tutoring for students. We’re working hard to help them get into school.”

The educational push is just one function of the 100 Black Men organization. The group also advocates for increased healthcare and disease prevention.

Teams that are already confirmed for the fifth annual tournament are Johnson County High School, Cook County High School, Turner County High School and Twiggs County High School where Lunsford serves as the basketball coach. Calvary Baptist which, according to Lunsford is one of the best teams in Florida, will also play in the tournament.

The games begin Dec. 19 and 20 at 12:30 p.m. at Georgia Military College’s Cordell Events Center. The cost is $8 per session.

“GMC has been very helpful to us,” Lunsford said. “They are allowing us to use the facility and they have been great to us and are working with us.”

For more information, contact John Griffin at GMC by calling (478) 445-2113.
