The Baldwin High School varsity football team put itself in the drivers’ seat for second place in the region Friday, defeating Upson-Lee 28-21 on the road.

Baldwin started off the nights’ scoring on its first drive of the game. The Braves’ three-play, 43-yard drive ended in an 18-yard touchdown run by Jerico Ford.

Upson-Lee answered with a 1-yard touchdown run of its own, then the Knights took the lead when a 97-yard drive ended with a 7-yard touchdown run for a 14-7 advantage at the end of the first quarter.

Baldwin knotted the game at 14 on its first possession of the second frame. Wayne Williams connected with Arsenio Glenn on a 31-yard pass for the tie.

The Braves’ Josh Childs recovered a fumble on the Knights’ next drive, but a field goal was no good. Upson-Lee fumbled again, and BHS capitalized. Williams connected with Glenn once again for a 22-yard touchdown and a 20-14 Baldwin lead.

Upson-Lee cut the lead to one with 15 seconds left in the third quarter, but Glenn caught his third touchdown pass of the game late in the fourth for the 28-20 lead and win.
