The John Milledge Academy varsity football team plays host to region foe Mount de Sales, and the Trojans will try to rebound from two tough region losses.
Two weeks ago the Trojans lost to Tattnall, and last week they fell to Riverside.
“We just have to play each game one at a time,” head coach Ken Johnson said. “We lost to Tattnall, but we played well. Our defense was strong, but our offense struggled some. Last week it was turnovers. Against teams like that, you have to play solid football all the way around. We didn’t do that.”
Mount de Sales is a team with plenty of speed. Johnson said his squad must limit the big plays and keep the speed off the field.
“They have a fast team,” he said. “They have two state track champions on the field. We have contain that speed and keep them from breaking the long play.”
And to do that the offense must sustain long, clock-eating drives.
“We have to control the football,” Johnson said. “If our offense is on the field their speed is off the field.”
As far as the Trojans go, Johnson thinks they are ready.
“The guys have worked hard,” he said. “We’ve had good practices. The concentration is good. The focus is there. The intensity is there. We just have to execute.”
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
