Events planned for BHS homecoming week

This week is Homecoming Week for the Baldwin High School football team, and the school has several events planned to raise the spirits of the community and the students.

“We have some things planned for the kids,” BHS head football coach Jesse Hicks said. “We’ll have a pep rally, a Baldwin Braves Night at Chick-fil-a and a powderpuff football game for the girls. We’re just hoping to get everyone to come out Friday and support us.”

The powderpuff game is scheduled for today at 4:30 p.m. at the BHS soccer field. Hicks said it is an event you shouldn’t miss.

“My wife, Coach Harville’s wife and Coach Baker’s wife will be coaching the girls, and Mr. Chandler will be the referee.” Hicks said. “All of the young ladies are excited about football, and this gives them a chance to take part in a game.”

The ninth grade girls will face off against the 10th-grade girls, and the junior girls will play the senior girls. Student council vice president Audrey Ruark planned the game.

“Audrey is in my fourth block class, and she orchestrated the whole thing,” Hicks said. “She’s done a great job, and it’s going to be a lot of fun for those girls. It give them the chance to get involved, have a game and have fun. They’ll also learn some football while they are at it.”

The BHS players won’t be in attendance, but they will take part in Baldwin Braves Night at Chick-fil-a tonight. The event takes place from 6 to 9 p.m.

“Our guys will head over there after practice, and we hope the entire student body comes out,” Hicks said.

A percentage of all proceeds generated during the three-hour event will go to the student council. Hicks said Chick-fil-a has done a great job.

“Matt Kirby and his crew over there, they have been so great for our program and all the teams in Baldwin County,” Hicks said. “It’s a great marriage, and we’re looking forward to having a good time.”

But after the fun and games are over, it’s time for football. The Braves kick off against Jones County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

“This should be a game that gets us back on track,” Hicks said. “When you lose you have to get back to what you do well, and that’s what we’re working on. Our region is the toughest in the state. We have to focus, finish the season strong and put ourselves in a position to win in the postseason. That starts Friday night.”
