The Georgia Military College Prep varsity softball honored four of its own Monday, picking up a 17-2 win over Wilkinson County in four innings on Senior Day, which was also the final regular season game for the Lady Bulldogs.
The GMC Prep seniors are Kasey Durden, Kristen Spikes, Brittany Wilson and Caroline Mason.
“I’m proud of all our seniors,” GMC Prep head coach Garry Couch said. “It was their day, and they played really well. They did what they had to do to put it away early.”
Wilson picked up the win for GMC Prep, improving to 2-0 on the year. She gave up two runs on two hits.
“Brittany did a great job out there today,” Couch said. “We came out a little slow behind her, but we did enough to get the job done.”
The Lady Bulldogs fell behind 2-0 after the top of the first, but that was the Lady Warriors’ only lead of the game. GMC Prep plated six in the bottom of the inning, eight in the second and three in the fourth to cap the victory.
Kaylee Johnson led GMC Prep, going 2-for-2 with a homerun. Alix Durden and Wilson also went 2-for-2.
“After the first inning we played really well,” Couch said. “I’m especially proud of the girls that came off the bench. We got a chance to let everyone play, and we played well all day.”
The Lady Bulldogs now prepare for the region championship at Glascock County on Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
“We have one day to prepare for Glascock,” Couch said. “We’re just going to try and ride a winning streak over there and bring home another title.”
