Thursday night’s Baldwin High School/Westside High School game lived up to all the hype and more, with BHS slipping by the Seminoles 29-21 in triple overtime.

The entire game was a defensive struggle for both teams, with each team only scoring once in regulation. In the first half of the contest, neither team could score. The only highlights were a fumble recovery and an interception, both by BHS’ Bennie Miline.

The third quarter was more of the same, as neither team dented the scoreboard after halftime. Finally, with less than a minute remaining in the game, Wayne Williams connected with Nick Hooks on an 8-yard touchdown pass.

But the Seminoles didn’t roll over and die. Westside drove the length of the field and scored on an 11-yard run to tie the game and send it into overtime.

The Braves struck on their first possession of the first overtime when Jerico Ford plowed across the end zone. Westside scored to tie it up again.

Baldwin took the lead once more in the second overtime on a touchdown pass from Williams to Josh Finney. Westside scored to tie it up again.

Baldwin scored to take the lead for good in the third overtime on a 1-yard run by Ford. Terrell Nevell converted the 2-point conversion and the Braves held on for the victory.

The Braves, coached by Jesse Hicks, return to action Oct. 11, hitting the road to take on No. 1-ranked Northside-Warner Robins. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
