Shane Foster returned home to Milledgeville last weekend with four new titles to his name after competing in the 2008 NPC Georgia Bodybuilding Championships.
Foster is now the reigning Masters 35 Light Heavyweight and the overall Mr. Georgia Masters winner. He also picked up the Best Arms and Best Back titles at the competition held last Saturday in the Clayton County Center for the Performing Arts.
Foster has been taking part in competitive bodybuilding off and on since the 1980s. He won the Georgia Junior Class title in 2000.
“That’s been just something I’ve always liked to do,” said Foster of competitive bodybuilding.
To prepare for his most recent competition, Foster followed an extremely regimented diet and worked out four to six days a week leading up to last weekend.
Foster’s diet consisted of a four-day rotation of moderate, high and low carbohydrates and protein, designed to drop up to a pound of fat per four-day rotation.
“My workouts did not change much. I increased my reps and sets per exercise and worked my calves and abs four times per week. The main change for the competition is the diet,” he said.
Foster went from 215 pounds to 180 pounds in eight weeks to prepare.
He credits his family — his wife Lisa and his two children, Landon and Latham — with giving him support, along with his local sponsor, Fitness Plus.
“They had to go through a lot with me with the diet and all that it took,” he said.
