The Baldwin County Little League All-Stars lost their semifinal game 10-2 Wednesday evening against the Northern All-Stars of Columbus in the state semifinals in West Point.
Dixie Raley pitched four innings for the Baldwin team with Kendall Rowland pitching two innings in relief.
“Errors cost us the ballgame,” said Baldwin All-Stars Coach Trey Rowland of the loss. “We ended up giving them five outs in the first inning.”
The Baldwin team finished the night with seven errors in all.
Karlie Harding was 2 for 3 at the plate for Baldwin, and Rowland had one hit in three at-bats.
Maddy Allen scored both runs for Baldwin, going 1 for 1 with a walk.
Baldwin advanced to Wednesday’s semifinal game after defeating Rockmart Monday 14-7.
Rowland said though the score may not indicate it, his team never gave up in the game.
“We hit the ball good and we never gave up,” he said.
The Baldwin team finishes the season third in the state, and the team has a lot to build upon for the future of area softball, Rowland said.
“I’m just proud of the girls,” he said. “They played with a lot of heart and never gave up.”
Rowland thanked all of the sponsors who helped to make the trip to state possible. He said Baldwin’s two losses were against the best two teams, Northern and Warner Robins.
“We can compete with them,” said the coach.
The Baldwin All-Stars team is comprised of all-stars from the Baldwin County Mite Girls Softball League.
