Football teams look to strength and conditioning to build a competitive edge on the playing field. A player’s physical and mental conditioning can be the difference in a tight ballgame and, ultimately, winning championships.

The John Milledge Academy football program knows a thing or two about winning and has been basking in joy, excitement and enthusiasm ever since head coach Don Marchman and associate head coach J.T. Wall were brought on board just a few months ago. Wall, a former star player at JMA, was an SEC football champion at Georgia and an NFL draft pick — credentials that made him the perfect man for the job.

Well, if you love the game of football (or golf) then you’re encouraged to come out to the Milledgeville Country Club Monday, July 27, and help support the 2009 John Milledge Trojan football team and coach Wall.

Like many football teams, the Trojans are in need of new equipment for strength and conditioning, plus other training aids, and Wall has been working hard to put together this new golf tournament to benefit the 2009 team.

The event is already gaining attention and has the makings of a classic — and early indications are the tournament is selling out fast!

Excitement has been building thus far because Wall has also invited several past Georgia Bulldog greats to come down and spend the day with all who attend.

Participants at the July 27 fundraiser will have the unique opportunity to meet the NCAA’s career leader in victories, former UGA quarterback David Greene and also get a chance to rub shoulders with the legendary kicker who downed Clemson with 60-yard boot in 1984, Kevin Butler.

Georgia’s razzle and dazzle former running back Robert Edwards (from Sandersville), and coach Mike Cavan and several others will also make the trip to Milledgeville to help support Wall’s efforts.

Other offerings at the event will include delicious food, door prizes and a silent auction during the day.

So come on out and help support coach Wall and the 2009 Trojans. If you can’t make it, there are other ways to support the team through Hole Sponsorships and donations. For more information, call coach J.T. Wall at (478) 452-5570 ext. 213.

The Union-Recorder will publish a follow-up story as the tournament specifics develop.
