Nearly every day of the week, area track athletes can be found at the Baldwin High School track, working and preparing for meets and events.

The nearly 55 participants practice five or six days a week and, recently, that work paid off. The track club had many athletes place high at the National Invitation and the Regional Meet, and several will be going to the National Junior Olympics in Baltimore, Md. later this month.

At the National Invitational, the club had nine top five finishes.

“It went very good,” said assistant coach Edward Javier. “We got second place in the 4x100, and more athletes placed sixth and seventh in other events. There were more than 60 teams there, so we did really well.”

And that success continued at the Regional Meet last weekend, as close to 15 athletes qualified for the National Junior Olympics.
