The Baldwin High School NJROTC competition rifle team has qualified to shoot in the Area 12 Championships on Feb. 3 at Fort Benning.

This is the first year the shooting Braves have had a competitive squad, and Cadet Commander Will Smith said he is surprised at how the shooters have

progressed.

“I’m impressed,” said Smith, who splits practice time between rifle and drill teams. “I never thought we’d get to this level so fast.”

Shooter Antonio Delgado agreed. He, along with Joe Hall, Chris Hernandez and Alan Carswell will be competing at the Area 12 Championships. Jacob Murdock will be an alternate.

“We just started off a couple of months ago, and now we’re at a high level,” he said. “That’s pretty darn good.”

There are divisions of competitive shooting — sporter and precision. The Braves are only competing in the sporter division this season, but hope to move up to the latter next year.
