The corridors of Putnam County High School are a little brighter each day thanks to the efforts of art education and fine arts chairperson Paige Barlow.

Barlow, a high school teacher for more than 12 years, spends each day helping ninth through 12th graders find their creative sides through pottery making, drawing, arts and crafts and other art-related activities.

“I think art is everywhere,” Barlow said. “It’s an essential tool to have. It helps make connections in other subject matters across the curriculum and helps to build problem solving skills.”

Barlow’s peers nominated her for the 2006 Putnam County Teacher of the Year.
