Ahoy, mates!
A vessel of Her Majesty’s Royal Navy is paying a rare visit to the Port of Milledgeville, and you might want to enlist while it is town.
The Milledgeville Players have taken a risk worthy of the pirates of the Caribbean and come up with a winner.
Yes, Gilbert & Sullivan’s “H.M.S. Pinafore” is berthed in Russell Auditorium through Sunday afternoon, and we have not seen anything of those British gents in some years.
The operetta is the fourth of 14 collaborations by this perfectly matched pair, and its first run in 1878 was a huge success. Though they were often wary and jealous of each other, William Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan “got it together” when it came to their immortal stage works, and “Pinafore” is one of their finest.
