The Masters has come and gone and Tiger didn’t win.
Or did he?
Zach Johnson was victorious at the Masters this year beating the highly renowned Tiger Woods by two strokes, but who won the media war?
For as long as I can remember the winner of the Masters has been the center of attention in the world of golf during the week following the event.
This year seemed different to me.
After Johnson won, most of the media focused on how Tiger did.
Only after the reaction to Tiger’s performance subsided did the media shift to Johnson.
Even then the main question was “How does it feel to beat Tiger?”
I’ve always been a fan of the underdogs in competition, so I was thrilled that a little-known guy from Iowa was able to not just beat Tiger, but to go home wearing the prestigious green jacket.
In 2002 Phil Mickelson, who had played in numerous PGA events, won his first major at the Masters and the media went crazy to cover his first major victory.
