It’s official: Walgreens will open a store in Milledgeville, according to company sources. It’s news, but it shouldn’t be a surprise.
During recent years Milledgeville has shed the sleepy ex-capital image, exchanging it for a new look. Today, as many people come to Milledgeville on weekends for its restaurants and shopping centers as for its capitals, columns and culture. The combination could be a one-two punch for the community.
International House of Pancakes. Long John Silver’s. Walgreens. Backyard Burger. Judy’s Country Kitchen. That’s a short list of franchised companies that consider Milledgeville a growth opportunity. Witness Scoops downtown and others and you’ll see why.
The growth in retail and dining opportunities in Milledgeville is a harbinger of things to come. This latest phase of development from outside is a boon for both local businesses and for surrounding areas.
