Carlton Oliver “Ollie” Etheridge Jr. 84, of Riverbank, Calif., went to be with the Lord July 22, 2012, at The Stratford at Beyer Park, surrounded by family.

He was born Sept. 7, 1927, in Milledgeville, the son of the late Carlton and Mattie Etheridge, both of Baldwin County. He was the oldest of four siblings, one sister, Lillian Winn, and twin brothers, Ray and Ralph Etheridge.

Carlton graduated from The Georgia Institute of Technology in 1946. On April 15, 1949 he married Sybil Telene Stephens at the First Baptist Church of Atlanta. The two had met on a bus en route to Atlanta. Sybil passed away Sept. 27, 2010.

Carlton served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army in Fort Dix, N.J. as a clerk-typist in the Army offices from 1946 until he was honorably discharged in 1948. After his discharge he was employed by SBC, which was later bought out by IBM, from which he retired. He dedicated his life to the Lord and to his family. Carlton was a Sunday school teacher and deacon at Calvary Church in Los Gatos, Calif.

He is survived by his daughter Martha (Woody) Nay of Texas, daughter Kathy (Tim) Dersch of California and son Carlton “Eugene” (Jeannine) Etheridge of California; six grandchildren, Jason (Michelle) Nay of Texas, Diana (Kyle) Reynolds of California, Christina (Daniel) Aguirre of California, Kayla, David and Nicole Etheridge and two great-grandchildren, Cara Cooper and Deonte Reynolds, and his brother, Ray (Dot) Etheridge.

A memorial service will be held Friday, Nov. 23 at 2 p.m. at Coopers Church in Coopers. Burial will be in the Coopers Church Cemetery.
