Richard Brown

NEWNAN —

Richard James Brown, son of Betty Tennille Brassell, born Nov. 1,1955 in Atlanta, passed away at his home in Newnan, Monday, Dec. 10, 2012 after an illness of several months.

Richard attended Georgia Military College in Milledgeville before serving in the U.S. Air Force. His career work was in computer programming. He inherited his love of horses from his father, but his excellence in the art of dressage was all his own. His kind, beautiful blue eyes and his gentle nature are only a precious few of the things his family already misses. He drove a car as his dad had, leaning into the corner of the front seat and driver's door, one arm thrown across the back of the seat, big smile on his face, foot heavy on the throttle. One of his favorite places on earth was the stands at a NASCAR race and one of the favorite days of his life was the day he finally talked his sister into accompanying him to a race, within days before he became ill, and watching her get drawn, irresistibly, into the fun of the day.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Peter James Brown, and his stepfather, Dr. Paul Brassell. He is survived by his wife, Renee Baum Brown; son, Peter James (Jimmy) Brown; stepchildren, Melissa Clemens, Adam Clemens; grandchild, Tyler Clemens. He is also survived by his mother, Betty Tennille Brassell; sister, Kathy and husband M.C. (Tip) Turner and several nieces and nephews all of Dallas, Texas.

Online condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.mckoon.com. A memorial service will be held Friday, Dec. 14, 2012 at 7 p.m. in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home in Newnan. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at McKoon Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Newnan Christian School 1485 Highway 34 E. #B2 Newnan, GA 30265.
