William S. Little obit

MILLEDGEVILLE — A memorial service for Mr. William S. Little, 86, of Homosassa Springs, Fla., and of Beech Mountain, N.C., will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013 at Sweetwater Baptist Church in North Augusta, S.C.

Mr. Little died Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013, at the Seven Rivers Medical Center in Crystal River, Fla.

He was born December 14, 1926, in Hardwick, Ga., to the late Frank and Della (Bentley) Little.

Mr. Little retired from the signal school at Fort Gordon, Ga., in 1979 where he worked for 30 years in the directorate of training, with his last assignment as the 31E Department Course Supervisor.

After that, he enjoyed a second career as a professional photographer (BL Photos) in North Augusta, S.C.

He served in the Navy in the Pacific Theatre during World War II as a motor machinist mate, 3rd Class on board the LCS(L) 73 as part of The Mighty Midgets Flotilla, winning many decorations before the end of the war.

In 1946, he also served in the China Sea, Yantze River and the Wampoo River in support of Chinese Liberation where he also medaled.

He was a charter member of the Optimist Club in North Augusta where he coached numerous youth sports teams as well as playing a major role in establishing the North Augusta Youth Football League.

Mr. Little is survived by his wife of 65 years, Syble Little; three children, Bill (Julie) Little, of North Augusta, S.C., Wylene (Ron) Bailey of Spartanburg, S.C. and Angela (Bruce) Jones of High Point, N.C.; five grandchildren, Travis Bailey of Spartanburg, S.C., Christina Bailey of Charleston, S.C., Beth Jones-Mason of Durham, N.C,, Benay Byers and Andrew Little, both of North Augusta, S.C.; three great-grandchildren, Elijah Byers and Lilly Byers, both of North Augusta, S.C., and Sullivan Bailey of Spartanburg, S.C.

Bill will be sorely missed by his family and friends as well as the many lives he touched.  

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of the Homosassa Chapel of Hooper Funeral Homes & Crematory.
