Margaret Elizabeth Brooks

MILLEDGEVILLE — Margaret Elizabeth Brooks Lavender, 87, passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2014. Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 8, at Gordon First Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul Curry officiating. Burial will follow at Ramah Cemetery.

Mrs. Lavender was a native and life-long resident of Gordon. She was retired from the Wilkinson County Board of Education. Mrs. Lavender was preceded in death by her parents, Fred Daniel and Cora Elizabeth Luther Brooks; her husband, Frank Lavender; two sons, Michael Lavender and Byron Lavender. She was a member of Gordon First Baptist Church and was famously known for her baking and sewing talents, serving many throughout the years.

Survivors include her daughters-in-law, Phyllis Lavender of Milledgeville and Freida Lavender of Eatonton; a brother, Everett Brooks (Sylena) of Gordon; a sister, Sara Brooks Arvin of Pekin, Ill.; five grandchildren, Melissa Bassett (Richard), Keith Evans (Kim), Lauire Tharpe (Jamason Byrd), Chris Lavender (Nikki) and Amanda L. Jones (Jonathan); 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 10 until 11:30 a.m. at Gordon First Baptist Church.
