MILLEDGEVILLE — The following is information compiled from public records taken from reports of the Milledgeville Police Department and the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office. It is our policy to not disclose the names of victims. These reports do not reflect guilt or innocence. An “arrest” does not always indicate incarceration. The charges filed are noted in the narrative.

Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office

Identity Theft

A man reported Oct. 24 that he received a bill from a credit management service in regards to an account taken out in his name. He stated that he had never had contact with the company before.

Theft by Taking

A homeowner on Grace Weaver Road reported that her lawnmower, valued at approximately $300, was stolen from her carport while she was at work Oct. 24.

An individual reported Oct. 24 that an ex-boyfriend had fraudulently opened a credit card in her name while she was hospitalized in 2008.

Criminal Damage to Property

An individual reported Oct. 24 that someone had damaged her heating unit in an attempt to get at the copper coils. Officers noted that the heat pump had been partially removed from the concrete pad and the rain hood, trunk lines and fan motor cover had been removed.

Obstruction of Officers

Officers initiated a traffic stop after an individual failed to maintain lane Oct. 23. While speaking with the individuals in the car officers noticed an open container of alcohol in the vehicle. The driver’s dialogue was inconsistent and officers were given permission to search the vehicle. Baggies of suspected methamphetamine were discovered, and when the passenger heard that he was going to be handcuffed he fled into the woods. Officers had to chase him in order to apprehend him. The passenger was charged with two counts of obstruction of an officer and giving a false name and date of birth to law enforcement. The driver was issued a citation for failure to maintain lane, open container of alcohol while operating a vehicle, and safety restraint violation.
