Jimmy Smith

MILLEDGEVILLE — Mr. James "Jimmy" Smith, 81, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014 at 1 p.m. graveside in Culverton Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Glynn Cranford officiating.

The family will be at Williams Funeral Home of Milledgeville Friday evening from 5 to 7 to receive friends.

Mr. Smith was a native of Sparta and had made his home on Lake Sinclair since 1994. He was the son of the late Rosser Dalton and Julia Clark Smith and was also preceded in death by his brother, John Dalton Smith. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving on the USS Bennington during the Korean War, retired from the Department of Transportation, was a member of the VFW and a member of Sparta Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Joan Smith of Lake Sinclair; daughters, Julie Smith (Melvin) Burgamy of Sparta and Fern Smith (Jeffrey) Blair of Macon; grandchildren, Jaime (Joel) Beasley, Jay (Nataly) Blair, Joni (Chris) Crosby and Jena (Garrett) Cranford; great-grandchildren, Bailey and Barrett Beasley and Bret Crosby; brother, Julian Alan (Pat) Smith of Sparta; and sister-in-law, Margie B. Smith of Sandersville.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Sparta Baptist Church, Culverton Cemetery Fund c/o Johnny Smith, or to the John Hancock Academy.
