Mitch I. Lifland

MILLEDGEVILLE — Mr. Mitch I. Lifland, 70, passed away Monday, April 28, 2014.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, May 1, 2014 at 2 p.m. in Williams Funeral Home Chapel of Milledgeville with Rabbi Larry Schlessinger officiating. Interment will be private. A reception will be held following the service at 4 p.m. at the East Lake Community Center.

Mr. Lifland was a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., grew up in Miami, Fla. and had lived in Sparta for the past eight years. He was a retired professor of Metallurgical Engineering at Eastern Kentucky University. He spent more than 40 years in Kentucky. He loved being an EMT and fireman and helping people. He was president of East Lake Volunteer Fire Auxiliary and a member of the East Lake Volunteer Fire Department and president of Sheffield Landing Community Homeowners Association and was a member of the Hancock County Board of Assessment.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Fried Lifland of Sparta; sons, Steven (Alexandra) Lifland of Buford and Jonathan (Torri) Lifland of Washington, D.C; grandchildren, Rachel, Anna Grace and Zoe Lifland; brother, Kenneth Lifland of McKinney, Texas; sister, Renee Paluga of Las Vegas, Nev.; and brother-in-law, Alan Fried (Judith Rosenberg) of San Francisco, Calif.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or to the American Cancer Society.
