MILLEDGEVILLE — Services for Deonard Joel Sanders, 91 of Irwinton, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2013, in the Chapel of Townsend Brothers Funeral Home. Elder Garry Hall will officiate.  Burial will follow in Dublin Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Sanders was son of the late Warren Sanders and the late Dora Collins Sanders.  He was a member of the Mt. Olive Primitive Baptist Church.  He was a carpenter and brick mason.  He was retired from Griffin Pipe Co. in Milledgeville and Garbutt Construction in Dublin.  Mr. Sanders was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary June Thomas Sanders; daughter, Barbra Sanders; brother, Julian Sanders. Mr. Sanders passed away Saturday, May 4, 2013.

Survivors include his children, Betty (Chet) Purcell of McIntyre, Ron Sanders of Cumming; grandchildren, Chad (Julia) Purcell of Atlanta, Forrest (April) Purcell, of McIntyre, great-grandchildren; Sage Purcell and Logan Purcell; stepchildren, Greg (Betty) Williams of Dublin, Ann (Robert) Rhodes of Dexter, step-grandchildren, Robbie (Brandy) Rhodes, Jennifer (Horace NeSmith) Herndon, Brian (Tammy) Williams, Julie (Stan) Garrett; great-grandchildren, Rylie Herndon, Rhett Herndon, Ashlee Garrett, Emilee Garrett, Tyler Williams, Jayke Williams; his twin brother, Leonard (Lurlene) Sanders of Irwinton; brothers and sisters, Leroy (Dale) Sanders of Milledgeville, Horace Sanders of Irwinton, Mildred (Cecil) Woodard of Dublin,  Mable McDonald of Moultrie; sister in law, Shelby Sanders, of Dublin;  numerous nieces and nephews.

Danny Woodard, Mike Sanders, Jay Sanders, Clinton Woodard, Jerry Woodard and Chris Sanders will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Serenity Hospice, 520 Hillcrest Parkway, Dublin, Ga.  31021.
