EATONTON — Ret. LTC Thomas "Tom" M. Schroeder, 69, passed away Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013.
Memorial services will be conducted Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, at 2 p.m. in Williams Funeral Home Chapel of Milledgeville. Interment will be held at a later date in Georgia Veteran's Memorial Cemetery.
The family will be at the funeral home Saturday from 1 p.m. until the service hour to receive friends.
Ret. LTC Tom Schroeder was born in Parkston, S.D., but lived throughout the world and had made his home in Eatonton since 1987.
He was a West Point graduate Class of 1966, an Airborne Ranger and served two tours of duty in Vietnam, earning a Purple Heart and three Bronze Stars.
He served as Macon's Central High School's ROTC program director and his last active duty assignment was as the professor of Military Science at Georgia Military College.
He was a member of the Purple Heart Society, the Military Officers Association of America, The American Legion and the Elks.
Born the son of the late Martin F. Schroeder and the late Joan Schlimgen Schroeder, he is survived by his wife, Jean Schroeder of Eatonton; son, Thomas M. Schroeder Jr. of Layton, Utah; daughter, Kelly (Todd) Webb of Wilmington, N.C.; step-daughter, Jennifer Hendrick of Elizabeth City, N.C.; brother, Scott Schroeder of West Lake Village, Calif.; and six grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
