Louise Hatcher Nelson

MILLEDGEVILLE — Louise Hatcher Nelson passed away Friday, Nov. 22, 2013. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24, at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Bradley, Dr. Gary Abbott and Dr. Milton Snyder officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Nelson was a native of Bibb County, but had made her home in Milledgeville. She was preceded in death by her father and mother Robert and Julia Meyer Hatcher and her husband Carl Aubrey Nelson Sr.

She graduated from Georgia Normal and Industrial College receiving her A.B. degree and later attended the University of Georgia receiving her Masters. She completed her graduate studies at The University of Arizona, University of South Carolina, Washington-Jefferson College in Washington, Penn. and Columbia University Teaching College. She was an Associate Professor of Math at Georgia College for 40 years, retiring in 1972.

She was a member of the Bell Choir and Chancel Choir, taught the Fidelis Sunday School Class and served as a Deacon at the First Baptist Church. Louise had a special interest in music, needlework, travel and she loved her two grandchildren more than anything.

Survivors include: two sons, Carl Aubrey Nelson (Cathy) and Marion Roy Nelson (Harriett), both of Milledgeville; two grandchildren, Roy Nelson (Alison) of Evans and Lyndell Smallwood (Keith) of Macon.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 1 until 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Nelson Music Suite at First Baptist Church, 330 S. Liberty St., Milledgeville, Ga. 31061.
