MILLEDGEVILLE — James Lamar “Jim” Smith, 84, passed away Friday, Nov. 1, 2013. Services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, at Black Springs Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Smith was a native of Barnesville, but had made his home in Milledgeville for many years. He retired as Grounds Maintenance Supervisor with Georgia College. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served from 1947-1957. He also served in the United States Air Force from 1958-1969. He was a devoted member of the Brotherhood at Black Springs Baptist Church. Mr. Smith was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and was a member of Georgia Antique Engine Club. He was an avid gardener and landscaper.

Survivors include his wife, Sara Gray Smith of Milledgeville; two sons, James “Gray” Smith of Milledgeville and Thomas “Tom” E. Smith (Naomi) of Wahiawa, Hawaii; his daughter, Jennifer Smith Williamson (Artis) of Milledgeville; a brother, Gerald Smith (Linda) of Athens; and three grandchildren, Baileigh Williamson, Leilani Fagaragan and Taylor Smith.

The family will receive friends Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Moores Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in honor of Mr. Smith may be made to Black Springs Baptist Church.
