Mary Franklyn Tye Garrard OBIT

MILLEDGEVILLE — Mary Franklyn Tye Garrard went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, July 31, 2013, at the age of 101. Funeral services will be held Saturday Aug. 3, 2013, at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Moores Funeral Home in Milledgeville with interment to follow in the Reynolds Chapel Cemetery in Devereux.

She was the daughter of the late Eve Harper Tye and Lewis C. Tye.  

Prior to her marriage to the late Marvin Wesley Garrard Sr. (Tobe), she taught at the Devereux Elementary School. She was a life-long member of Devereux Methodist Church, a member of Women’s Missionary Society, the Devereux Ladies Club, and a Sunday school teacher.

Her Sunday school students looked forward to Christmas when she gave each of them a Christmas-decorated egg ornament which she had created.

She is survived by children, Anne G. Whorton and Jackie G. Archer, both of Sparta, and Marvin W. Garrard Jr. (Pat) of Watkinsville; nephew, Charles Ensign of Portland, Ore.; niece, Eve C. Smith of Ellijay; eight grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren; and three step-great-great grandchildren; and a host of loving friends and neighbors.

The family wants to thank Hospice Advantage of Athens, Dr. Dave Ringer and Staff of Lake Oconee and the staff of Savannah Court at Lake Oconee.

In lieu of flowers, you may make a contribution to Devereux Methodist Church, c/o Joyce Fordham, P.O. Box 367, Sparta, Ga. 31087.

The family will be at Moores Funeral Home Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the funeral hour for friends to call.
