Mary Lou Cunningham Walling obit

MILLEDGEVILLE — Mary Lou Cunningham Walling, born September 29, 1936, in Antioch, Ill., died July 6, 2013, as a result of complications caused by diverticulitis.  She was employed by the Clayton Mental Health Facility in Clayton County, Ga., as personnel/payroll manager for the majority of her working years.  During that time, she was listed in Who’s Who of the Young Women of America and also awarded “Family of the Year.” 

After retirement she and her spouse relocated to Milledgeville where they were involved in volunteer activities at the hospital gift shop and the college before moving to Niceville, Fla., eight years ago.

Mary was preceded in death by her youngest son, James Leonard Walling III; her sister, Doris Ann O’Brien; and her parents, Cyrus Orville and Gloria Mary Pierce Cunningham of Antioch, Ill.

She is survived by William G. Walling, her loving spouse of 57 years, who will miss her dearly, and her wonderful family including three children: son, Michael Christopher Walling of Niceville and his children, Eric Brown, Miranda Harp, Michael Jr. and Sara Walling; son, Mark Douglas Walling (Temple) of St. John’s Fla., and their children, Nicholas, Will, Brittany and her son, Jacob; and daughter, Kim Walling Schwantz (Christopher) of Niceville and their children Fred, Jared and Zac; brother, Gerald Orville Cunningham (spouse Patricia) of Griffin, Ga.; sister, Marcia Cunningham Strattan (Roger) of Griffin; brother, David Leroy Cunningham (Chrystal) of Thonotosassa, Fla.; brother-in-law, Richard O’Brien of Griffin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

No services are planned at this time.

National Cremation & Burial Society of Milton has been entrusted with the arrangements.
