William (Bill) George Walling of Parkwood Place, Niceville, Fla., passed on July 18, 2013. Bill was born Master Lake Wales in Lake Wales, Fla., on Jan. 1, 1935, and moved to Dothan, Ala., at age 5 with his family, graduating from Dothan High School in 1953. He attended Auburn University and graduated from Georgia State University in Atlanta.
Bill spent his working career with Delta Air Lines, starting in New Orleans as a ticket agent in 1955 and ending 37 years later as a general manager, Corporate Real Estate in Atlanta.
Upon his retirement, he and his wife moved from Jonesboro, Ga., to Lake Sinclair in Milledgeville where they both were active in volunteer work for the next 10 years.
In 2005 they relocated to Niceville, Fla. Bill always enjoyed the water from the beaches to the lakes. He and his family lived on four different lakes during his lifetime including two lake homes which he personally designed.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Mary Lou Cunningham Walling, who was born in Antioch, Ill.; his youngest son, James Leonard Walling III, who was born in Inglewood, Cailf.; his father, James Leonard Walling Sr., born near Big Creek, Geneva County, Ala.; and mother, Margaret Bertha Redfearn (Walling) Hambeau, born in Gebo, Mont.; and his brother, James Leonard Walling Jr., also born in Lake Wales, Fla.
Bill is survived by three of their four children, Michael Christopher Walling of Niceville, Fla., Mark Douglas Walling of St. Johns, Fla., and Kim Renee (Walling) Schwantz of Niceville, Fla.; a niece, Sarah Martha Campbell of Hoover, Ala.; and first cousins, Dan and George Redfearn who reside in the Chicago area near where most of the Redfearn relatives are buried near Council Hill, Ill.; grandchildren, Miranda Walling Harp, Michael Christopher Walling Jr., Sara Christine Walling; one step-grandchild Eric Brown, all living in the Atlanta area; Nicholas Ryan Walling currently residing in Christchurch, New Zealand, Brittany Marie Walling of Dacula, Ga., William James Walling of St Johns, Fla., Fred Lewis Schwantz IV of Niceville, Fla., Christopher Jared Schwantz of Atlanta and Zachary Adam Schwantz, also of Niceville, Fla.; one great-grandchild, Jacob William Genaro also of Dacula, Ga..
Graveside services will be held at a later, yet to be determined, date in Griffin, Ga. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Salvation Army or your favorite charity.
