Nelly Hemphill Gilbert obit

MILLEDGEVILLE — Nelly Hemphill Gilbert, 82, passed away Thursday, July 25, 2013. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 27, at Woodlawn Cemetery in Eastman.

Mrs. Gilbert was a native of Dodge County but had made her home in Milledgeville for more than 50 years. She was retired from Georgia College & State University as secretary to the Dean School of Education.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Holman and Cora Mahaley Hemphill, and her husband, Ray L. Gilbert, and several sister and brothers. She was a patient, kind and loving Mother, Grandma, Nana, Mother-in-law and Granny. She loved the Lord and her family and always saw the good in everyone and everything. She always had such a soft voice and loving touch.

Survivors include a son, Jeff Gilbert (Anita), and her daughter, Karen G. Classen (Mike), both of Milledgeville; her brother, Holman Hemphill (Margaret) of Blue Ridge; four grandchildren, Brian England (Lori) and Katie Gilbert, Gracie Gilbert and Conner Smith; two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Justin England; several nieces and nephews;  and her caregivers, Betty Liggin and Carrie Stanley.

The family will receive friends Friday from 5 until 7 p.m. at Moores Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Ronald McDonald House. Visit to express tributes.
