Oneita “Nana” Westbrook McCoy of Milledgeville passed away Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014 at the age of 92 from natural causes. Services will be private.
Nana was born March 1, 1921 in McDade, Texas to Grover and Emma Westbrook. She made her home in Milledgeville after marrying her husband Lee R. McCoy Jr. who preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by her parents, brother, Calvin Westbrook, and sister, Grace Drousche, both of Austin, Texas; and her first husband Kermit Newquist of Elgin, Texas.
She dedicated her life to her husband, raising her children and grandchildren, and to the Lord. In raising her family, they went to church “every time the doors were open.” As her children got older she worked beside her husband Lee in the family business, McCoy’s Restaurant, then at Belk’s shoe department and finally retiring from Blandy Hill’s Elementary School lunch room. She was a member of the Gordon Church of Christ.
Nana was an excellent cook and baker, passing her skills on to all four of her children. She had an extra love of sweets with a trip to Ryal’s Bakery always being a highlight, date bars being her favorite.
Survivors include her daughters, Leesa Steele (Emma, Hannah Lee and Sterling Steele) all of Milledgeville; Kathleen and Kenny King of Eatonton, GA, sons: Bill and Tammy McCoy of Drummonds, TN, (Derek and Carter McCoy of Drummonds, Tenn.; and Lisa McCoy of Houston, Texas and Michael McCoy (Michael Paul McCoy of Milledgeville).
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorial contributions in honor of Nana, who had a great love of animals, to: Have a Heart Save a Life, 110 Oconee Dr. Sparta, Ga. 31087.
