Wynette Stembridge Bralley

MILLEDGEVILLE — Wynette Stembridge Bralley was born on May 23, 1924 in Milledgeville, the daughter of Sidney David Stembridge Sr. and Winnie Guffin Stembridge. She was a graduate of Peabody High School and Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville, where she studied Elementary Education.

In the early 1950s she worked for the Department of Defense in Washington, D.C. ; met and married L. Wisner Ray, also a native of Milledgeville. They moved to Richmond, Va. and in October 1955 had her only child, Stephanie Louise Ray (Johnson). Wynette was widowed in 1966.

In 1975 she married Doug Bralley, originally from Lynch Station, Va. The couple moved from Richmond to Lancaster County, Va., settling on Dymer Creek. They became residents of Rappahannock-Westminster-Canterbury in 2006.

She is survived by her husband, Doug Bralley; her daughter, Stephanie Ray Johnson of Lawrenceville; step-daughters, Mikal Hoofnagle of Richmond, Va. and Courtney Meadows of Swansboro, N.C.; a sister, Cornelia Stembridge Lawson of Macon; a brother, W. Asbury Stembridge of Macon; as well as three grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grand children.

A graveside service will be held in Irvington, Va. on Wednesday, Jan. 15 at 10:30 a.m. at Historic Christ Church on Route 646, followed at 11 by a memorial service at Rappahannock-Westminster-Canterbury and a reception for family and guests.
