Hilda Barber

MILLEDGEVILLE — Ms. Hilda Barber, 76, passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2014.  

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 21, at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church with Father David Probst officiating. Burial will follow at Heritage Memorial Park.

A native of London, England, Ms. Barber was born in 1938. She later immigrated with her children to America in 1973 to Greensboro, N.C. Then, several years later, in 1977, Ms. Barber and her family moved again, this time to Milledgeville. She currently worked for the anesthesia department at ORMC.  As a retiree, in 2002 Ms. Barber became a foster mom and acted as a loving caregiver to more than 50 children. She was nominated Foster Parent of the Year on multiple occasions and received numerous other awards and accolades. Hilda also devoted her time to watching her favorite soccer teams, the Spurs on a national level, as well as her grandchildren.

Hilda Barber was a loving and devoted mother, sister, grandmother and aunt. She will be remembered for her commitment and dedication to  both her family and friends. She was the mother of the late Phillip Barber, who passed in 2010.

Survivors include her daughter, Cheryl Barber Johnson, (Scott) of Milledgeville; sister, Joy Weston Kidd of Winter Garden; brother, George Barnfield of England;  grandchildren, Philip, Taylor, Scott, Colin, Andrew and Michael; niece, Gail Weston McDonald; nephew, Ryan Weston; and a number of other relatives.

Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society.

The family will receive friends Friday from 6 p.m. until 8 at Moores Funeral Home.
